Everton subsequently went into half-time with 10 men, and it is another example of the Merseyside derby throwing up flashpoints. In total, there have been 29 red cards in clashes between Liverpool and Everton, eight of which have been given to the Toffees.
The last player to be sent off for two yellow cards against Liverpool was Reds legend Sadio Mane, when he was playing for Southampton.
Everton will hope to grind out a result even with 10 men — they went into half-time level at 0-0.
